Annual family concert

Our family-friendly concerts are not to be missed – and this one was no exception, with virtually a full house. These concerts provide the perfect introduction to classical music for budding young musicians, guiding them through all the sounds and emotions the orchestra can produce.

Audience participation was the order of the day – as usual. We had an introduction to the orchestra sections, singing in the round, experimenting with loudness and quietness, and of course the huge fun of providing every member of the audience, including the babies, with bells, shakers, and blocks. What a glorious accompaniment!

The players thoroughly enjoyed the performance too. It’s always such fun to play some of the classic tunes of the Strauss family, the comical ballet by Leroy Anderson that features that well known orchestral instrument, the “Sheet of Sandpaper”, through to the thrilling chase where Peer Gynt races to escape from the Hall of the Mountain King. Thankfully no trolls materialised!
