CANCELLED St Ives September Festival – Madeleine Pickering
Wednesday, September 14th, 2022: 20:27
£10This concert has been cancelled after the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, as it falls on the day of the funeral.
Join us for our spectacular concert as part of the St Ives September Festival in St Ia’s Church, for a second chance to hear soloist Madeleine Pickering playing the Mendelssohn E Minor Violin Concerto. This exciting and moving composition, one of Felix Mendelssohn’s most popular, perfectly demonstrates Madeleine’s talent as a musician. She will be accompanied by the Cornwall Concert Orchestra, who will also be playing Schubert’s Rosamunde Overture, Bizet’s popular Carmen suite and Kachaturian’s Spartacus ballet suite, which includes the well-known theme to the Onedin Line.
It is the first time St Ia’s Church has accommodated such a large orchestra, and is an event not to be missed!
Madeleine was a scholarship student at the Royal Academy of Music in London from 2015-21, where she studied under professors Maureen Smith, Tasmin Little and Michael Foyle (violin), Garfield Jackson and Martin Outram (viola).
During her time as a student she won all the major prizes for her instruments, and was invited to perform with Joanna MacGregor and Adrian Brendel in the Academy Piano Festival in 2018.
She co-led the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain as a teenager, and was concertmaster of all the Royal Academy of Music orchestras.
Madeleine now enjoys regular work with the London Symphony Orchestra, Collegium, Britten Sinfonia, Fantasia Orchestra, Echo Ensembleand Piccadilly Sinfonietta.
She is co-founder and leader of Seida Ensemble, a brand new, unconducted string orchestra made up of exciting young musicians from London and Europe.
Madeleine Pickering is kindly supported by Making Music’s Philip & Dorothy Green Young Artists scheme.
Tickets are £10, or £5 for under 16s.
